7 Toxic Thoughts That Hinder Your Success

Often, the only barrier that prevents us from becoming successful is our mind. Of course, it’s normal to have thoughts of doubt and go through moments of anxiety. However, it’s crucial to start controlling our thoughts proactively instead of letting them run wild if we want to improve our quality of life, achieve our goals and become better versions of ourselves.

This article aims to point out the damaging beliefs and help determine whether they take up residence in your brain and how you can deal with them. Here is a list of thoughts to note first.

1. “I don’t know where to begin”

Personal development is a lifelong process. It is a way to assess your skills and qualities, consider your aims in life, and set goals to realize and maximize your potential — personal development ties in with your values, beliefs, and aspirations.

Take time for self-awareness to see yourself clearly and objectively through reflection and introspection. This way, you can understand better and find out how to achieve inner harmony and set goals for the future.

To grow as a person, you need to answer three questions:

What should I do?

Why should I do this?

How can I do this?

First of all, answer the first question clearly and honestly. It will be a great start and will help you find answers to the following questions.

Answer the second one to get motivated.

The answer to the second question will give you motivation. While the answer to the third question may take longer, you will find an answer!

2. “I got no time”

You can make your life better and easier. But to do this, you need to spend a little time and effort. And that’s what most people don’t want to do. They are so absorbed by work or the daily routine that they do not want to even think about how to make life better.

But believe, if you focus on empowering thoughts such as, ‘How can I get it all done?’ ‘How can I find more free time?’ your brain starts working to find the solutions for you.

Also, find ways of self-development that work best for you. And give the best results in a short time. For example, you need to increase your cognitive skills instead of reading books. Or improve memory? Just try one step at a time, and you will get it done.

3. “I’m not good enough”

There’s a weird assumption in some people’s brains that you need to be really good at something to be allowed to do it. But remember, experts are made, not born.

So, if you want to succeed, step out and take action. The more you do, the more you’ll learn (even through making mistakes), and the better you’ll become at what you do.

You have to start and set goals – like everyone else who succeeded before you because you can improve your skills to achieve your goals.

If you want to be a writer – start writing.

If you want to be a businessman – start your own business.

If you want to create your startup – start looking for an idea.

4. “I will fail”

Sometimes failure can make us make fearful of taking action. But in fact, failure is an inseparable part of success. And one cannot exist without the other because failure is proof that you keep trying and are taking action to achieve your goals.

So even if you fail, achieving your goal is closer than you think, so keep going and try once again. Even If you fail several times, you will learn valuable lessons and gain experience. You can become stronger and be more ready to handle tough situations.

5. “I’m not the kind of person who can succeed”

First of all, you have to believe in yourself and your abilities. Without this, you cannot succeed.

Self-esteem can help unleash your potential and make you more confident in taking action. Also, the difference between successful and unsuccessful people is how they think and treat themselves. After all, this is the foundation for your personal development.

For example, if you are short of money – start saving money. You can start saving, stop buying unnecessary things and look at life from a different perspective.

There are many free resources and also various courses to help you master the skills you need. The main thing is to believe that you deserve it and that you are the type of person who will succeed because doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.

6. “It’s too risky”

Any significant change in life requires risk. And no one can guarantee that everything will work out. However, nothing will happen if you don’t try.

You can minimize the risks through careful preparation, planning, and weighing the pros and cons.

Here is a 5-Step process for risk assessment

Step 1: Identity what you want to achieve

Think and identify what you want to achieve – your goals. Then write them down.

Step 2: Assess the potential risks

Think about any potential risks concerning your goals and then write them down next to the goals you identified in step one.

Step 3: Assign each risk a value

What’s the likelihood of each risk resulting in a negative consequence?

Move through your list of goals and associated risks and give each of them a rating that indicates the likelihood and severity of each risk. Use a scale from 1 to 4.

Step 4: Make a plan

Based on the numbers you assigned to each risk, determine which risks are worth taking and which risks you can ignore.

7. “It will be too hard”

Surprisingly, the hardest thing is to do nothing because of regret and the pain of losing opportunities that come from doing nothing.

Just trying causes growth in you as a person, and for that alone, it’s entirely worth it. You will never know what you could have accomplished if you hadn’t tried.

To sum up,

The truth is the only person holding you back, is you! So, keep that thought.

Your success depends on your positive mindset, ability to seek help, and capacity to stay on track and be focused.

So, set goals that resonate with you and can bring you closer to success.
